Young Adult is a genre I do typically read. A lot. But a genre that I don't typically read is classic children's literature. Around here, each town does a reading campaign where the local library encourages everyone to read the same book and then hosts events related to that book. I was at our local library when I noticed that this year's community book is The Wizard of Oz. This book really didn't appeal to me at all, but I decided to give it a go, mainly because it is short and it would allow me to check another book off the list on the Modern Mrs. Darcy 2015 Reading Challenge, in the category of a book from a genre I don't typically read.
I think I've seen parts of the movie and I remember it as being very scary. I have no idea if that is true of the movie, but after reading the book, it's hard to imagine the movie being scary. Maybe I was very young when I caught glimpses of the movie, or maybe it's nothing like the book at all. This was actually a really cute story and the entire time I was reading it, I kept thinking, "why have I never read this book?"
I am so glad I was reintroduced to this genre of books and now I'm wondering what other great children's literature I've been missing out on.
Here are a few more classic children's books that I'm adding to my to-read list:
I read this book as a part of the 2015 Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge. You can learn more about this fun reading challenge and see all of the categories here.
P.S. A book I chose because of the cover and a book I read that's currently on the bestseller list.
