As part of the Modern Mrs. Darcy 2015 Reading Challenge, I chose a book to read just because of the cover. I wasn't actively seeking out a book for this category, but this book cover caught my eye when I was at the library, so I picked it up and checked it out, without even reading the back cover or inside flap. What We See When We Read by Peter Mendelsund turned out to be a very quick read, because when I actually opened the book, I discovered that this book has just about as many pictures as it does words. While, I didn't love this book, it was an interesting discussion about what we visualize in our minds while we read. I think I enjoyed the cadence of this book more than the actual content, but overall, I think it's a good book for anyone who likes to read books about books (aka: book lovers). Now, in celebration of great book covers, a round up of some of my favorites (I think you'll notice a trend): My favorite book cover, ever: |
Actually, Zadie Smith always has great book covers (and great books, too).
I read this book last year, just because of the cover (and it turned out to be a decent book):

A book I'm currently reading that just happens to have a great cover (although this image does NOT do it justice at all. Seriously, you need to go to a bookstore and admire this cover in person):
And a book that I recently added to my "to-read" list and was delightfully surprised to discover it also has a beautiful cover:
PS: A book "everyone" has read but me
