I once read that when going through any major life change, you should just give yourself 30 days to adjust to the change, and so much will fall into place during those first 30 days. Oh, how true that is.
Yesterday marked our 30th day here in Boston. How has it been only 30 days? There wasn't even any snow on the ground when we drove into Boston! Everything was new, and just a little bit different from what we were used to. We were tired of driving and just wanted to be done traveling and feel settled in. We were cold. We didn't know how to get to the grocery store. We didn't even own a shovel.
And somehow, in the next 30 days, everything fell into place.
+ I retrieved our cat from his vacation in Vegas and now our little family is all back together.
+ We found the cutest apartment, in a great neighborhood, close to Nick's job. Our Door to Door containers with all of our stuff arrived from California. We signed the lease, picked up the keys, moved in, unpacked, and settled in. It immediately felt like home.
+ We found a great place to run.
+ We met most of our neighbors (and the mailman and the UPS guy!). Everyone is so friendly here.
+ We experienced 7+ feet of snow since we arrived on January 23. We own two shovels and we know how to use them!
+ We located all of the essentials (Costco, Trader Joe's, Market Basket) and discovered some new gems (H Mart, where to buy local produce).
+ We registered our car and got our Massachusetts driver's licenses. There's no turning back now!
+ We settled into a new routine, which is actually a lot like our old routine, just with a little more shoveling thrown in.
Always, always give it 30 days.
